Just For Fun: Photo manipulation with Mirror Lab App

A few weeks ago I had an accident and ended up with a fractured foot. Meaning I’ve been away from the studio resting in bed and having lots of quality time with my phone. That led me to experiment with many new apps and I completely got addicted to the Mirror Lab App. If you are not familiar with it, the app allows you to generate images or manipulate photos by using different mirror, pattern and 3D effects.

I started playing around with Mirror Lab by manipulating photos of my own drawings and it was so much fun! Most of all I was fascinated by the Kaleidoscope and mandala like images I was able to generate within minutes. I ended up starting a new Instagram profile just so I’de have somewhere to share the images of my new passion project. Here below are a few examples of the images I created using this app. Follow @art.by.dgb on instagram to see more.

There is still so much for me to learn on the different effects you can generate with Mirror Lab and I’m excited to spend some time on Youtube learning them all. If you are interested in photo manipulation but don’t have the skills or knowledge to use complicated software (like in my case), I highly recommend trying out the app. Upgrading to the pro version will unlock additional effects and the ability to save images in a higher resolution mode. Visit the hashtag #mirrorlab on Instagram to see some examples of the images people are able to make with it.

I also wanted to share other apps I recommend if you’re looking for creative recreational outlets:

  1. Glitch Lab App - From the same developers as the Mirror Lab App. This app generates images and allows photo manipulate with an emphasis on Glitch effects.

  2. EZ Glitch App - More glitch effects for your photos! Upgrading to the pro version will unlock additional effects.

  3. Color Touch App - Always wanted to draw a mandala but didn’t know how? You can draw one in less than a minute using this touch screen app. Upgrading to the pro version eliminates ads and will remove the ColorTouch logo from the bottom of the image when saving it to your phone.

  4. Fluid Simulation App - A huge hit with my 2.5 year old! A basic touch screen app - move your finger across the screen to generate fluid like color movement. Very relaxing for your mind and eyes.

If you know of other apps I should check out please feel free to reach out with any suggestions, I love to try new things!
